Quote by Paul Klee ‘art does not reproduce what we see rather it makes us ‘see’. The idea was to represent the text and create a pleasing and stimulating visual pattern with the letters and allow the reader to enjoy the composition.and create a pleasing and stimulating visual pattern with the letters and allow the reader to enjoy the composition.
Artist Statement:
Letter Carver Caroline Webb originally placed a chisel and mallet into my hand. Over the past years she has become my inspiration and mentor. However, I have also trained through various short courses with Tom Perkins, Andrew Whittle and John Neilson.
Ever since studying art as a main subject at school, I have always been interested in letters and their forms. Though nearly going down the route of art, my original academic training was as a Neuropsychologist investigating how the brain recognises shapes. It was only later in life (after children!), that I returned to my love of letters.
Inspired by themes as diverse as poetry, history, philosophy, science and the landscape, my work makes a dramatic focal point, or a deeply intimate tribute or message, though sometimes with a whimsical or humorous twist.
