Shakespeare (Sonnet 91) - Letterpress print by Elizabeth Fraser
2016 saw the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. A call went out from Oxford University's Bodleian Library for letterpress and fine press printers to create a newly envisioned and printed set of all 154 sonnets in celebration. I was delighted to be able to take part in this and chose Sonnet 91 which I printed in an edition of 25. One is now in the Bodleian archive and the others are exclusively available here. The print is in copper gold ink on Somerset Velvet Soft White A4 sized paper.
About the artist
Elizabeth Fraser is an artist printmaker experimenting with the analogue processes of hand set letterpress type and linocut from her Cambridgeshire garden studio. Inspired by the invisible connections and structures that verbal and written language make in our lives she uses colour, pattern and space to create her playful work. Elizabeth also has an interest in using art as a means to explore and engage with science to create greater understanding and appreciation of their shared basis of creative enquiry.
