Pink marble. 495x460mm

'Red Roses' is a poem by Gertrude Stein from her collection of poems Tender Buttons. The letterforms for this piece were created with a flat edged pen and retain a calligraphic style. The flourishes draw inspiration from Giovanni Antonio Tagliente's 1531 writing manual The True Art of Excellent Writing or Lo presente libro. The stone, a pink marble, was gifted from another carver.
