30.5 x 24.5 x 5 cm Woodkirk York stone
Maia is currently in the second year of her LAT apprenticeship. She says:
‘This is the fifth piece I worked on as part of my LCAT apprenticeship with Charlotte Howarth, this piece was made whilst spending a month in the studio of Louise Tiplady. The letterforms in this piece are an upright italic.
The four lines of text are from the beginning of the poem, ‘The Dream of the Rood’, an early English text found in the Vercelli Book. A fragment of the poem is also found carved on the Ruthwell stone, in Dumfries, Scotland. ‘The Dream of the Rood’ is an account of the Cross’s part in the crucifixion recounted in a dream. ‘

All funds raised from the sale of this piece go towards supporting Maia’s second year of apprenticeship.
