Better Late Than Never by Fergus Davidson
Better Late Than Never by Fergus Davidson
Fergus Davidson created this piece in conjunction with our exhibition: Innovative Forms, the lettering of John Skelton. He delivered the piece to the Lettering Arts Trust shop with about an hour to spare - the irony!
The inscription translates as ‘Better late than never’ There are some other spellings and variants of this Latin, but he took this from the 4th book of Ab Urbe condita (History of Rome) by Titus Livius, around 27 BC. The letterforms are inspired by the original and innovative letter forms of John Skelton.
We funded a journeyman placement for Fergus with master letter carver Christopher Elsey.
