Stuart Buckle
Stuart is a Suffolk based craftsman who carves strong, lasting letters in both stone and wood.
Very few lettering craftsmen can be said to have had a traditional apprenticeship in recent times. After leaving 6th Form college in 2002 Stuart began a two year Lettering Arts Trust apprenticeship with Gary Breeze funded by the Jerwood Foundation. His formal training continued for a further three years and he continues to work as Gary’s assistant whilst developing his own practice.
He has worked on numerous major public art projects throughout the UK and abroad including the Lovers’ Arch at Glasgow Caledonian University, the Romsey Charter Stone, Christ Church Fountain in Oxford, and the V&A grand entrance donor recognition scheme.
